my fedora hat....one of my very favorite things!
This past January, I had the opportunity to go to Maui, HI. My hubby had a work trip there and because I have an amazing man and parents, I had the chance to go. Thank you again Mimi and Pop Pop! :)
I had never been before but had very high expectations of what it would be like. I wanted to give the highlights of our trip. My favorites and not so favorites. If you ever have the chance, take it...Such a BEAUTIFUL place.
Favorite place to stay- Westin, Kaanapoli Beach
This hotel was in a prime spot, it was quick walk to Starbucks and Whalers Village(more on this later), yet set in a lush, green spot right off the beach. The Ritz Carlton is beautiful here, but because of its location, I would chose The Westin.
. Lahaina Grill- This may be one of my most favorite restaurants EVER! The food was AMAZING! I honestly could not get enough pineapple or macadamia nuts. Fresh salmon, mahi and tuna...need I say more. I tried poke for the first time. I was somewhat leery...but I knew if I could get past the "raw" aspect, it might be good. Great appetizer!
The Pineapple Grill- This restaurant was located at The Ritz Carlton. Here I had the best dessert...I am drooling just thinking about it. It was a fresh pineapple upside down cake with a caramel glaze and toasted macadamia nuts. Vanilla Bean ice cream topped it off...we shared....i got the last bite! I love him~
OUR FAVORITE SPOT
One Gelatto Company
I say this because we went a LOT...it was our after dinner treat. This may be my sweet highlight..We had double scoops...coffee gelato with toasted macadamia nuts and chocolate chunks...heavenly! The coffee was just as wonderful, and they even had the added bonus of....MACADAMIA NUT INFUSED SUGAR! Need I say more....Wish I had a cup now! :)
Best breakfast spot. Chad is a little more adventurous than I am. I stuck with the norm...eggs, bacon, english muffin....and we shared macadamia banana pancakes! I do not know if I have ever had a pancake quite like it...more like dessert I guess.
Whalers Village- Great outdoor shopping!
My only not so favorite was our little (ha) trip on the "road to Hana"....
We had heard what a fabulous experience this would be...so we went for it. We rented the jeep(they said it was the only way) and headed down or up the road to Hana. It might have been different if we had chosen to go on a sunny, clear day...but instead we went on a day that must have been Maui's annual rain fall day. It was a wet, muddy, nightmare...7 hour nightmare. BUT...in the midst of it we shared a few laughs, caught some amazing sights, and made some memories.
